This is my entry for the "Art of" contest on the forums. I choose The Art of Theater, but wanted to do something really different. I couldn't think of many things to do that would encompass all that goes into the production of a play/musical with the time and supplies I have, then I wondered if a shadow box would count if I painted/drew/sculpted it all by hand. This was the result (the box I used was a slightly warped shoebox, so I cut off the edges a bit)
The following represent...
Mask- Costume designer/costumes
Tickets- Audience, ushers, etc
Negative strip- cameramen, etc (if recorded/photos taken)
The person peeking from behind the strip is a member of the Stage Crew.
The actor (or actress) is under the spotlight, bowing.
In front of the actress is the conductor's box, and since the pit orchestra is hidden from view so as not to distract, I made banners for the four sections. (WOOT STRINGS)
There is a director's loudspeaker opposite the crew member, and the Playbill reads, "The Art of Theater" (for those who can't read it)
The entire shadowbox is made to look like a stage, and the glitter etc was my attempt at the lighting, props, etc.
Medium: Mixed media...waaaay too many things were used.
Use full view, sorry it's a tad blurry, that's the best I could get, but you can still see it all, just not the details on the crew guy's face. |
