Velma was actually ahead of Daphne on my list of girls to draw - Daphne only found her way out first because I had intended to include them in the same picture, and after the bother I had drawing Daphne, I decided to leave it at that.
I have to say, I think this is way better than my Daphne drawing. Velma is probably my favorite of the pair in any case; I like smart girls, and I think the reputation Velma has as being the unattractive one is disputable.
Why no skirt? Well, in the sketchy stage of the drawing I couldn't really get the line of it right, and then decided it would look better this way - after all, I do like to change at least something of a character's recognizeable appearance to make my art more interesting.
Actually, if I had stuck entirely to how the picture looked when I sketched it, she would have been naked - sometimes you need that basic shape before you can figure out how the clothes should look.
