This technique has, over time, become sort of a personal trademark for me. A lot of people will invert drawings just for fun, but I felt like taking the concept of inversion a bit farther making drawings for the sole purpose of being inverted. In other words, it's the inverted version that looks like a normal piece, and the normal, on-paper version that has all the wonky shading.
This allows you to do some cool shading effects you simply can't achieve in a normal drawing.
